Yoga means "to unite" or "to yoke". In our culture today, yoga is often presented as harmless exercise or a relaxation method. But for Christians, it’s important to understand what stands behind it spiritually. Yoga isn’t just stretching—it is rooted in Hindu worship, with poses (asanas) originally designed to honor and unite with Hindu deities.
The Bible warns believers to stay away from practices that connect to other gods.
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” — Exodus 20:3 (KJV)
When you engage in yoga postures and meditations originally meant for worship of idols, even unknowingly, you open spiritual doors that can invite deception or confusion.
Many think, “It’s just exercise.” But the enemy’s most effective weapon is blending truth with error. Yoga encourages emptying your mind, focusing on self, and awakening “inner energy", or the entity called kundalini. It is a serpent spirit that rises through your spine to your torso. God’s Word teaches the opposite: to fill your mind with His truth and to deny self.
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 2:5 (KJV)
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.” — Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)
True peace doesn’t come from inward focus—it comes from the presence of God.
Yoga meditation often includes mantras—words or names connected to Hindu gods. Repeating them may seem innocent but can open the soul to unholy influences. Demonic oppression often begins through agreement—spiritual alignment with ungodly practices.
“And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?” — 2 Corinthians 6:15 (KJV)
If Jesus is our Lord, we cannot mix light with darkness.
The Lord calls us to meditate—but not on emptiness. We are to meditate on His Word day and night.
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” — Psalm 1:2 (KJV)
Christian meditation fills our mind - with truth of His Word, His promises, His character, and His presence.
“Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2 (KJV)
If you have practiced yoga, there is freedom in Christ. Simply repent and renounce any spiritual connection to false worship. Ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse you, fill you, and restore your peace.
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” — John 8:36 (KJV)
God doesn’t condemn you—He invites you to walk in truth and holiness. Replace yoga with Christ-centered worship, prayer, stretching, walking, and meditation on Scripture.
Peace doesn’t come from postures; it comes from our Lord Jesus Christ..
True wholeness begins when you rest in Jesus Christ, not when you reach a perfect pose.
Yoga seeks spiritual openness without the Spirit of Truth. Christianity calls us to oneness with Christ.
“For in him we live, and move, and have our being.” — Acts 17:28 (KJV)
